Aim:
The course gives basic theoretical and practical skills in the use of geographical information systems (GIS) with special emphasis on applications for traffic and transportation.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)

Organisation:
The course contains lectures and laboratory work.

Course contents:
Basic concepts. Common applications for GIS for traffic and transportation. Geographic databases. Hardware and software. Data capture, storing, processing and presentation. GIS cartography. Overlay analysis. Development of simple GIS-applications.
