Aim:
The course aims at giving enhanced knowledge in animal behaviour, with particular emphasis on behaviour and behaviour-related problems in different applied environments, such as husbandry and zoos. Further themes are eco-ethology and human ethology.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Accepted to the educational program of biology with participation of Chemistry 1 (20p), courses of 40p according Biology 1 and 2 (or equivalent) with fullfilled "threshold"-demands (passed 50p with a minimum of 25p theory).
Recommendation: NBIC09 Zoology is strongly recommended.

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, study visits and laboratory projects.
|
|
Course contents:
Basic ethological concepts, such as the genetical background of behavioural patterns, the governing mechanisms, cognition, sociobiology and eco-ethology, as well as applied ethology in husbandry and zoos, and human ethology. A number of excursions and study visits to institutions for applied ethology and zoos are made, including observation and registration of different types of behaviour in different species.

Three different grades are given: Failed, passed and passed with distinction.
To obtain the grade passed with distinction requires a passed additional written examination.
