Aim:
The aims of the course are to give a general introduction to and frame of reference for the study of technology and technological development from a societal and historical perspective. The main focus of the course is on the problems that are the subject of research at the Institute of Tema Research, Technology and Social Change.

Organisation:
The course is given as a series of lecture. The students complete an essay assignment.

A selection of the topics below will form the basis of the lectures:
The grammar of the debate on technology. Technology and ethics. Theories on technology and science. Evaluating technology from a historical perspective. New technology and old habits. Technology and time. Technology and work: A post-Nordic perspective. Technology in an international perspective. Small businesses and technology. Technology and power. Swedish technology policy in the post-war period. The mass-medial society, knowledge and the future.
