Aim:
The aim of the course is to provide basic education in physics, tailored for further university studies in science and technology.

Organisation:
The course consists of two parts, part A and part B. Part A begins in the autumn, period 2 and part B begins in the spring, period 1 and continues throughout the entire spring term.
Part A corresponds to 5 points (1 point laboratory work) and part B corresponds to 8 points (2 points laboratory work). Teaching consists of lectures, problem solving and laboratory work.

Course contents:
Part A:
- Optics: refraction and reflection.
- Mechanics: force, torque, equilibrium, pressure, kinematics in one dimension, energy and the principle of conservation of mechanical energy, mass, work, power and Newton´s laws of motion.
- Heat: Temperature and phase change.
- Electricity: charge, current, voltage, resistance, electrical circuits, electric energy and power.
Part B:
- Mechanics: momentum, impulse, kinematics in two dimensions, mechanical oscillations and Newton's law of universal gravitation.
- Electricity: electric and magnetic fields, induction.
- Waves: mechanical and electromagnetic waves, resonance, diffraction and interference.
- Atomic physics: the Bohr model, absorption and emission, quantisation of energy and the photon.
- Nuclear physics: nucleon, radioactivity, ionizing radiation, fission, fusion and equivalence of matter and energy.
