Aim:
The course intends to give fundamental knowledge about signal and image processing.
It is then used to solve problems in medicin and biology.
Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TSRT01 Introduction in Matlab is recommended.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.
Organisation:
The course consists of lectures, laboratory work based on Matlab and a group work based on a literature study or laboratory Matlab work. For the group work, an oral and written presentation is required.
Course contents:
1-D signal processing: Linear systems. Signal and frequency domains.Convolution, correlation, filters, impulse response. Sampling and the sampling theorem. DFT and FFT.
Applications: ultrasound, ECG, EEG.
2-D signal processing: Generalization of 1-D results. Images as two-dimensional signals. Filtering of images. Resampling and interpolation.
Applications: tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, microscopy, image restoration, image reconstruction, image compression.
