Valid for year : 2005

NMAD06 Optimization in Production and Logistics, 7,5 ECTS credits.
/Optimering inom produktion och logistik/

For:   FRIST   Mat

Prel. scheduled hours: 54
Rec. self-study hours: 146

  Area of Education: Science

Subject area: Mathematics

  Advancement level (A-D): D

Aim:
The course aims to give the students an ability to model optimization problems, and an insight in how mathematical theory can be used to formulate and solve practical problems, with emphasis on applications in distribution and transportation planning. The course also aims to give a deeper knowledge about comtinatorial optimization, i.e. optimization problems with an underlying graph structure.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
NMAB18 Linear and non-linear optimization, NMAB19 Discrete optimization.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course is built up around a number of cases (practical applications), where the students work with problem analysis, modelling and solving using software as Excel/Visual Basic or Ampl/Cplex. The lectures cover theory and optimization methodology. The cases are discussed and the students present the results of their work. Other practical applications are discussed.

Course contents:
Sequencing and scheduling problems in production planning, Classical machine scheduling problems, Capacitated lot-sizing problem, Transportation and routing problems, Local search/Tabu search, Column generation, Ampl-modelling, Cost allocation in transportation.

Course literature:
Information about lecture notes (kompendium) is given at the beginning of the course.

Examination:
Written and oral presentation of project work
Written and oral presentation of case studies
1,5 p
3,5 p

Course language is Swedish.
