Aim:
The aim of the course is to prepare students to write and defend a masterâ?Ts thesis or degree project. After completing the course, students should be able to
  • organise an academic report or thesis
  • prepare and present figures, graphs, statistics and equations in an appropriate manner
  • describe and compare results and statistics
  • formulate and defend opinions and ideas
  • summarise a longer text
  • write a popular scientific paper
  • use an appropriate system of referencing
  • present research methods and results in both formal and less formal situations in an appropriate and professional manner
  • discuss research methods and results
  • read, understand and critique the work of others
  • use the English language appropriately and correctly
  • identify and analyse personal strengths and weaknesses with regard to the English language and develop strategies for improvement


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Bachelor degree and all specific requirements for admission to the respective masterâ?Ts programme at LiTH

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course will consist of lectures and workshops. Students are expected to prepare carefully for the workshops and to participate actively.

Course contents:
Texts and research papers to read, study and critique. General discussions related to research work. Presentation technique and training. Peer feedback. Writing practice and language work related to report and thesis writing.
