Aim:
This course is designed to develop an understanding of how differences in people's cultural background influence various communication situations. It proposes to increase students' intercultural communication skills and to enhance analytical talents regarding cultural awareness and communication between people from different cultures in both business and social settings with following goals. After the course students should be able to: - Describe and explain theories and concepts of intercultural communication, - Describe and analyse the relationship between communication and culture in its impact on interpersonal relationship and relationship among culturally diverse individuals - Describe and explain the role of cultural patterns that affect or relate to individuals' behaviors, the ways of thinking and doing things, - to identify and describe the obstacles that hinder the development of intercultural communication understanding and competence

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Language studies of the language chosen.

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, group activities (assignments), roll play and films are among the methods used in this course to allow students an opportunity to gain and apply the theories, concepts and skills.

Course contents:
Theories and concepts of culture and communication. Single and multidimensional models of cultural analysis and classification. The components and structure of culture and impacts on communication. The pattern/s of communication behavior and modes of communication, persuasion techniques, cultural diversity and cultural adjustment.
