Aim:
The course aims at giving an overview of the biology of animal behaviour, with particular emphasis on evolution of behaviour its control mechanisms. The course should also provide a thorough experience with conducting experimental ethology work.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Accepted to the educational program of biology with participation of Chemistry 1 (20p), courses of 40p according Biology 1 and 2 (or equivalent) with fullfilled "threshold"-demands (passed 50p with a minimum of 25p theory).
Recommendation: NBIC09 Zoology is strongly recommended.

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, group studies of course literature, laborations, study visits, and writing and presentation of a paper on a relevant theme.

Course contents:
Basic ethological concepts, such as the genetical background of behavioural patterns, the governing mechanisms, cognition, sociobiology and eco-ethology, and human ethology. Excursions to Tovetorp research station and the Kolmården Zoo.
