TSRT71 Automatic Control - Project Course, 7,5 ECTS credits.
/Reglerteknisk projektkurs , CDIO/

For:   D   IT   Y

  Area of Education:

Subject area:

  Advancement level (A-D): D

Aim:
The course is to give practical knowledge in analysis and synthesis of control systems and to illustrate the use of control theory. It is also to give experience of presenting results in written and oral form.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TSRT12 Automatic control, TSRT27 Digital control, TSRT35 (38) Control theory, TSRT62 Modeling and simulation

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:

Course contents:
The course consists in calculations and implementations of a controller for a given physical systems (not simulated), in order to obtain desired performance for the final control system. The controller is designed in a modern rapid prototyping environment, specifying the controller in Matlab/Simulink and generating autocode for a DSP. Typically, the work contains several different phases. First, a mathematical model for the system is built. This is partly done with the help of collected measurement data (``identification''). Later work involves simulation, analysis and control synthesis in order to test the functions of different controllers. Familiarity with the courses Automatic Control and Control Theory is necessary for this work. Finally, the calculated controller is tested on the physical process and the behavior of the system is verified. Among the eligible processes, there are inverted pendulums and a helicopter model.
