  • Giving systematic names of uncomplicated organic substances. Naming uncomplicated organic substances from their structures.
  • Describing the conception of isomerism and resonance.
  • Writing simple reaction mechanisms.
  • Describing some spectroscopic techniques, for example thin layer chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, gel filtration and gas chromatography.
  • Describing some analytical techniques, for example UV-VIS, IR, MS and NMR
  • Giving the common structure of amino acids and different properties of the common amino acids found in proteins.
  • Describing the fundamentals of protein structure using the concepts; primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure.
  • Describing a number of functions of proteins with focus on the catalytic.
  • Describing the fundamentals of carbohydrate and fatty acid catabolism, photosynthesis, DNA-, RNA-, and protein synthesis.
  • Performing common laboratory technique, presenting the results in written reports.
