Aim:
The student should be able to classify and recognize an amount of organisms within important plant and animal groups.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Participation of Chemistry 1 (20p), biologycourses of 20p according to Biology 1 (or equivalent).
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Theoretical studies in addition to field and laboratory work. Part of the course is comprised at a biological field station.

Course contents:
Technics and models for identification of important animals and vascular plants. A survey of important animal and plant groups. The course includes specimen collection, classification, and study of typical species belonging to varied taxa.
