Aim:
The aim of this course is to illustrate and discuss central issues concerning the set up of businesses and the exploitation of innovations. The course is primarily designed for students who are planning to start their own companies, but it can also be taken by others.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TEIE 08 Basic Course in Industrial Economics or TDIE 05 Industrial Economics and Management or TEIE 57 Industrial Economics, basic course.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Legal, institutional and economic issues will be treated during the lectures and seminars. Most of the lectures will be from industry and various organisations.

Course contents:
The innovation process. Legal aspects of business set ups and patents. Financial sources. Business organization. Leadership. Innovation activities in Industry. Examples of success stories and failures in business set ups.
