Aim:
The course aims at the understanding of how an information network works and of how the choice of parameters affects its performance. The course intends to give a good knowledge about a few methods of analysing and important aspects of communication in networks. The central theme of the course is how good communication networks can we design and what methods of analysis can we use. After completing the course the student is expected to be able to:
- Describe protocols for multiple access to a shared media.
- Give an account of properties of mechanisms in protocols for multiple
access to a shared media
- Formulate assumptions to model and analyse information networks and
discuss how valid these assumptions are.
- Be able to perform typical calculations within the different parts covered
by the course.

|
Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Basic knowledge in Statistics.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.
