Aim:
The course is to give the basic theory needed to solve more difficult control problems.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TSRT 12 Automatic control, TAMS 08 Statistics, first course (Y) or TAMS 35 Mathematical statistics (D)

Organisation:
The course consists of lectures, lessons and laboratory work.

Course contents:
Mathematical description of linear multivariable systems in continuous time. Controllability and observability. Stability. Description of disturbances. Synthesis of regulators. Sensitivity and robustness. Performance limitations. Linear quadratic theory. Observers. The separation principle LTR-methodology. Robust loop-shaping. Nonlinear systems: The effect of nonlinearities, phase planes, stability. Lyapunov theory, the circle criterion, describing function. Model predictive control. Optimal control. the maximum principle.
