Aim:
The value of purchased material, components and services often exceeds 50% of an industrial company´s turnaround. This, together with high demands on cost efficiency in the material flow, decreasing product life cycles and an increasing internationalisation leads to higher demands on competence within the purchasing function. After completed course, the students will have good enough knowledge about purchasing in an industrial company and to be able to understand the role and importance of the purchasing function for a firm.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TDEI05 Industrial Economy or TEIE09/TEIE13 Financial Control Systems.
TETS07/TETS13 Basic Logistics is recommended.

Organisation:
Mainly lectures, with lectures both from the academia and from the industry. During the course, group exercises will be done, where the students should use the knowledge gained from literature and lectures.

Course contents:
The course gives an understanding for purchasings strategic importance for companies. Classical and modern views of purchasing will be explained and discussed. The purchasing process, from demand specification to completed delivery, will be oof major interest during the whole course. special attention is given to purchasing strategies, supplier evaluation and supplier relations. Specific areas such as negotiation technique and public purchasing are also treated in the course.
