Aim:
After having completed the course the student shall, individually and in group:
- Master basic concepts, models, and tools to observe, chart, and describe a logistics system, on a general level.
- Master basic principles and models of how the function of a logistics system interacts with the profitability of the individual goods producing enterprise, on a general level
- Be able to compile and communicate a charting of a specific logistics system, and how the function of that system interacts with the profitability of the specific enterprise.
- Be able to apply basic principles, models and tools on a specific logistics system.
- Be able to assess the situation-specific complexity and uncertainty in a given situation in a specific logistics system, in order to analyse the studied system.
- Be able to compare several given alternatives with regard to changes in a specific logistics system, and to recommend and justify one or several of these options.
- Master and be able to apply a structured working method for items 3 through 6 above, and to communicate this.

TEIE13 Financial Control Systems, TEIE19 Industrial Economics, TEIE59 Industrial Economics, Basic Course, TPPE04 Manufacturing Systems Economics, TDEI04 Industrial Economics and Management, or TDEI05 Industrial Economics and Management.

Organisation:
Lectures in which basic principles, models, and tools, as well as self-study cases are presented and discussed. Seminars to support group work with the main case.

Course contents:
- The prime unit of analysis is the single goods producing enterprise, regarded from a systems perspective.
- Basic concepts to describe logistics systems.
- Basic principles for creating profitability by means of efficient logistics.
- In order to create conditions for efficient logistics, it is necessary to apply a structured method of working when conducting studies of logistics systems. This includes:
- Charting, description, and analysis of logistics systems.
- Formulation and evaluation of different alternatives, i.e. possible changes to the logistics system.
- Evaluation and comparison of alternatives.
- Communication of the study in its entirety, from task to recommended path of action, including implementation.
