Aim:
The student will develop a proficiency in reading and presenting scientific data from primary papers in the areas of relevance for the MSc program followed. The student will improve her/his skills in both written and oral communication of scientific results. Furthermore, the student will develop his/her ability to critically assess scientific papers, and make scientific judgements of primary data.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Admitted to courses within one of the Masterâ?Ts Programme in â?oApplied Ethology and Animal Biology" or â?oMolecular Genetics and Physiology".

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course is composed of literature studies (i.e. reading primary scientific articles), attending scientific seminars, seminar discussions, and written hand-ins summarizing relevant papers. Seminars are compulsory.
The course runs over the entire spring semester and is scheduled combined with the other courses during the semester.


Course contents:
The course covers the following topics:
  • Searching and reading primary scientific literature within areas relevant for the Masterâ?Ts program followed
  • Written summaries of scientific literature
  • Critical assessments of scientific literature
  • Oral presentations of scientific literature


Course literature:
Primary scientific papers provided or acquired during the course.

Examination:
Hand-ins of written summaries
Oral presentations and seminar participation
