Organisation:
The course is divided into two parts. The first half of the course is a mix of lectures and a group project. The lectures will cover the basics of a user centered approach to design, such as how to carry out a pre-study, basic GUI-design and prototyping. The project will enables the students to practice their skills in a small group. The first half of the course concludes with presentations of the projects to the rest of the class.
During the second half of the course, students will work in pairs to complete a report based on the usability project they are doing. This will give the students experience in writing about their research in terms of purpose, related work, method, results, and conclusions. This part of the course will involve two meetings: one at the beginning of the course and one when the "report-writing" phase begins (week 47). Students are expected to make constant progress on their drafts, review one draft by other students, and deliver a completed report by the end of the course.
