Aim:
The course provides fundamental knowledge in basic organic chemistry: After studies well learned the student will have proficiency in:
  • Nomenclature of organic compounds.
  • The different functional groups in organic chemistry.
  • Basic transformations and reaction mechanisms.
  • Elementary rganic laboratory techniques.


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Attended General Chemistry

Organic chemistry 2, Biochemistry 1

Organisation:
Theoretical aspects are daily presented in lectures. Problem solving is studied during lessons. In the laboratory the students are trained in elementary organic chemical laboratory techniques.

Course contents:
The course include nomenclature, structure and physical properties of most common substances representing different functional groups. Basic transformations and stereochemistry . In the laboratory, synthetic procedures are performed in relation to basic reactions and principles of purification.
