TSEK26 Radio Electronics, 6 ECTS credits.
/Radioelektronik/

For:   D   IT   SOC   Y

Prel. scheduled hours: 48
Rec. self-study hours: 112

  Area of Education: Technology

Subject area: Electrical Engineering

  Advancement level (A-D): C

Aim:
To give fundamental knowledge on radio frequency (RF) transceiver design, from component level to system level, and understanding in performance limitations by means of theory on RF spectrum, matching, transmission lines, passive and active RF components in CMOS technology.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Preferably TSEK21 Introduction to Radioelectronics, or at least knowledge of semiconductor devices and analog circuits. To follow the course the students are required to have a good background in analog circuits and frequency analysis (Fourier).

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
12 lectures, 6 tutorials and 3x4h laboratory work.

Course contents:
Review of personal communication systems (PCS). Review of transceiver architectures and principles of RF CMOS system/circuit design. Circuit design of basic RF CMOS blocks: low noise amplifier (LNA), mixer, oscillator, frequency synthesizer, power amplifier. Review of data converters and digital baseband processors. Introduction to RF design tools.
