Organisation:
Lectures: About 32 h Laborations: 2 or 3 - Micro-luminescense of quantum dots - AFM on nano structures

Course contents:
- Fundamental physics on low dimensional semiconductor structures; quantum wires and quantum dots - Technologies to fabricate nano structures, e.g. lithography, etching methods, Stranski-Krastanov, epitaxy on top of tilted or patterned substrates - Nano structures based on polymer materials, bio materials etc - Carbon based nano structures e.g. tubes - Characterization of nano structures: Optical microskopy, scanning electron microskopy, transmission microskopy and scanning probe techniques, luminescense - Material-manipulation on the nm-scale - Examples on deices, which are based on nano structures e.g. light emitting diodes, modulators, lasers, memories, detectors, tunnel-structures, one-electron transistors, quantum computers
