Aim:
The aim of the course to provide fundamental knowledge of methods and issues whithin proteomics.
After the course the student should master 2D-gel elektroforeses and master the analytical tools for interpreting combination of data from genomdatabases and data from masspectrometri of proteins.
In addition the student should be familiar with different methods for high-throughput analysis of quantitative data on protein and mRNA levels (for example by chip technology).

|
Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Course contents:
Identification and quantitative analysis of the protein content in cells and organs/organisms. Charactairizations of the celluar protein content and its correlation to diffrences in enviroment ( for example different diseases).
Analysis of the proteome usig 2D-gel electrofores and masspectrometri.
Identification of proteins by combining information from public genomdatabases with result from masspectrometri analysis of individual proteins in 2D-gels.
Analysis of mRNA levels using different types of DNA chip (transcriptomics).
