Aim:

To provide an understanding of the goals and requirements of real-time computer graphics rendering and of the wide variety of methods used to reach these goals.



Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TNCG01 Introduction to Computer Graphics Programming or TNM068 Computer graphics or TNM077 3D Computer Graphics and Animation

Organisation:

The course consists of lectures and laboratory projects. The course is strongly oriented towards self-study with a significant amount of distributed literature. The examination is primarily by extensive lab work and supplemented by an essay or project work on a topic suggested by the student and agreed with the examiner.



Course contents:

To pass the course the student must fulfil the following learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the goals and requirements of real time rendering.
  • Demonstrate an ability to develop high performance graphics applications using:
    • Advanced software techniques for high performance graphics.
    • Parallel and multithreaded computing systems.
    • Programmable graphics processing units.
  • An understanding of high performance techniques for mobile applications using lightweight graphics processors
