Aim:
After this course, the student should have good practical knowledge in structural studies of proteins and biomolecules, both regarding performance and interpretation of experiments. Furthermore, the students will obtain sufficient methodological knowledge in the field to be able to follow, understand and question research results within both academia and industry, and to propose and conduct projects where such studies are pursued.
Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
NKEC52 or TFKE12 Biokemi 2, NKED74 Protein Chemistry, TFKE21 Protein Cehmistry and TFKE26 Protein Engineering, TFKE24 Biostructural technologies
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Teaching is organised in lectures, lessons and laboratory tasks.
Course contents:
The lecture part gives in-depth insight in methodologies and approaches regarding structural studies of proteins and biomolecules, and builds on earlier knowledge obtained in the courses Strukturanalys av biomolekyler and Proteinkemi. Two larger partly teacher-directed projects are included, where methodology within NMR and crystallography is learned by being applied to real problems. The projects are concluded with a written report.

Course literature:
Excerpts from reference litterature, scientific reviews and articles, and project descriptions.
