Aim:
The aim of the course is to present the strategic perspective of Design for Manufacturing. Special attention is paid to the holistic view of machining and the predatory work needed for efficient machining operations. This includes Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Basic knowledge in Production and Machining methods.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Lectures: 8 hrs; Seminars: 4 hrs; Laboratories: 12 hrs
The teaching is organized in lectures and seminars. The lectures cover theory, models and approaches. The seminars are used for case studies in groups as a predatory work the laboratory exercises. A written report is handed in describing the work done.

DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURING: Selection of Material and Processes. Design for Machining. Design for Injection Molding. Design for Sheet Metalworking. Design for Die Casting. Design for Powder Metal Processing.
COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURING: Product Data Management, Assembly, Basic Design, Features, Fixturing, Manufacturing, NC-check, Post processing,
Pro Engineer will be utilized for demonstrations and laboratories.
