Aim:
To work in a project according to the directives for CDIO at the Y-program. To provide the students with the opportunity to obtain deeper knowledge within the fild of images and computers, by working in an applied project. To provide a deeper understanding of practical problems and restictions related to the methods which have been presented in previous courses in the area, and how these methods can be appplied to solve concrete problems.
A purpose for the course is also for the students to acquire knowledge and abilities within the general area of entrepreneurship, with particular focus on business planning for new ventures. After the course, students should be able to:
  • account for models that describe what it takes for a new venture to have a stable basis for further development and to asess the level of development of ventures using such models; and
  • account for the information and analyses needed to evaluate a development project from a business point of view and have the ability to collect and analyse relevant information for the purpose.

Images and Graphics, Image Analysis, Multidimensional Signal Analysis, Signal and Image Processing, Computer Vision, Image and Audio Coding, Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Medical Image Analysis, Computer Graphics, Oral and Written Communication

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course has a catalogue with projects provided by the different research groups within the field. Each project has a certain size in terms of students which can carry out the project. During an inital semiar, the students form groups around the projects selected from the catalogue. Each project is presented both in the form of a report and an oral presentation. In order to carry out a certain project, the student must have obtained suitable background knowledge from other courses in the area.
The course runs over the entire autumn semester.


Course contents:
Reserach and application related projects within the field of image analysis, computer vision, computer graphics, image coding, and neural networks.

Course literature:
Specific for each project.

Examination:
Project management according to the LIPS-model. Project documentation according to the CDIO concept. One oral project presentation.

The course applies an individual examination of each student which, however, is mainly based on the project group's ability of meeting the course aims. A project group, and thereby all its members, is given the grade "pass" if the follwing three goal have been achieved
  • All project and course documents agreed upon have been delivered at the agreed upon timepoints.
  • All agreed upon requirements have been met.
  • All agreed upon presentations of the project have been made.
Each member of a project group is required to document his or hers work in the project, including in which way the member has contributed to the work of the group and its achievements of goals. In the case that the entire group cannot be given the grade "pass", as described above, indivudual grades "pass" can be given based only on the members' ability to document that their work meets the aims of the course.
Grades are given as â?TFailâ?T or â?TPassâ?T. Examination can normally be made only on work which is made during the stipulated course period. Additional work after the course period cannot be made in order to compensate for bad project management. Students how have pass the course TSBB53 Images and Graphics project course cannot participate in this course.
