Aim:
The aim of the course is to give students the necessary background for statistical analysis of industrial experiments. The main emphasis is on application of statistical theory on real data, on selection of models and the ability to interpret results and draw conclusions.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
A first course in probability and a first course in statistics.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Lectures: 22 hrs; Seminars: 10 hrs. Obligatory laboratories: 8 hrs.

Course contents:
Probability models and random variables. Simulation of random data. Point estimation, probability plots, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Chi-square tests. Simple linear regression and correlation, multiple linear regression. F-tests, prediction intervals, stepwise regression, residual analysis. Transformation of data. Data analysis by means of Minitab.
