Aim:
The course aims to give basic information about the justice system in Sweden - from crime to judgement. The goal is for students to learn the basics of the legal requirements for the State during investigations and subsequent responses to criminal activities.

There will be lectures and seminars.

Course contents:
The course covers the organization of the judicial agencies in Sweden as well as the judicial process. Furthermore, the course covers the legislation relevant to criminal activity with emphasis on those situations where forensic evidence can be used. The course will also include discussion of the criminal code and trial process; distinguishing between that which is made public and that which is protected by secrecy. Finally, an introduction to different forms of responses to crime (i.e. sentencing as a deterrent to crime) is given.
