Aim:
The aim is to give profound knowledge about.
structure and function of aquatic ecosystems
the interplay between biological and non-biological components in inland water
certain species/types-notice about water plants and animals.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Accepted to the educational program of biology with participation of Chemistry 1 (20 p), courses of 40 p according Biology 1 and 2 (or equivalent) with fullfilled "threshold"-demands (passed 50 p with a minimum of 25 p theory). NBIB08 Ecology 5 p and NBIB22 Floristics & Faunistics 5 p or equivalent must be passed.

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, laboratory work, and excursions. Seminars, laboratory work, and excursions are compulsory. The work at the laboratory and in the field exists foremost in form of independent teamstudies. Written home exam at the end of the course.

Course contents:
Physical and chemical conditions in inland waters (standing and running water) and how those interplay with each other and with plants and animals. Different lake types incl the processes that lead to that they are characterized by different plants and animals. The development of lakes. The meaning of a drainage area for a lake's properties. Running water.
