AIM OF THE COURSE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Students will: - learn what culture means, how it ticks and how it is changing - learn to apply several dimensions of culture in intercultural conflicts - learn that a full understanding of their own culture is the basis for intercultural communication - learn how to plan and set up a project - discuss the practise at school and acquire an insight in how project management is executed. |

CONTENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Students have to solve several problem based cases and formulate a detailed project plan. During the web based course students will come together to discuss special cases, to play intercultural simulation games and to discuss their project plans. The Tutor will schedule meetings and will inform the students via the web based course room. At the end of the course students have to organise a students conference at which they present the outcomes of their projects. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The student has to write an essay about international communication. The students will work in couples to come up with a joint project plan. The student has to write a report of their teaching practice with a detailed commentary on learning goals, activities and problems. Students who have failed an examination are normally allowed to retake it on two additional occasions, one of which should be arranged shortly after the first examination. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course three times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |

Only general admission requirements: Completion of an upper secondary education and skills in English, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of English required in Swedish upper secondary education (eg. a TEOFL-score of at least 500 points for paper based test, 197 points for computer based test or 61 points for internet based test; IELTS with at least 5,0 overall and no part under 4,5, or equivalent) Documented knowledge of English equivalent to “Engelska B” is required, or an international proficiency test, e.g. TOEFL, minimum score 550/213. At least one year of studies in a teacher training programme. |

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed. |
