AIM OF THE COURSE
The aim of the programme is to clarify the capacity of Outdoor Environmental Education and Outdoor Life to contribute to sustainable development, environmental health and citizenship. Contemporary ideas of sustainable development in different human fields of activity presuppose a deep and elaborated awareness of the conditions for a human being’s interaction with the environment. The Master’s Programme at Linköping University focuses on experimental learning based on Nature, Culture and Society. Teaching includes field-related experiences in the out-of-doors, learning in and through natural and cultural landscapes.
CONTENTS
The programme includes four moduls:
Theory, 10 points
Outdoor Education and Didactics, 10 points
Methods of Enquiry and Research, 10 points
Master Thesis, 10 points.
TEACHING
Education tuition will be based on lectures, seminars, individual reading and essay writing.
EXAMINATION
Examinations will be in the form of various kinds of written assignments which may be complemented by oral or written tests. As regards the Master’s thesis, a final presentation and defence before a discussant and examining committee is required in order to obtain a Swedish master’s degree.

Students who have failed an examination are normally allowed to retake it on two additional occasions, one of which should be arranged shortly after the first examinationn.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course three times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Degree in teacher training of at least three years of length or equivalent, for example B.A./ B.Sc.

International students who do not have English as their native language must prove proficiency in English by submitting results from a TOEFL test or other internationally recognised tests (TOEFL score at least 213/550)

GRADING
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
