AIM OF THE COURSE

On completion of the course, the student should be able to - use knowledge and demonstrate an understanding of how experiences in the outdoor environment may be utilised in teaching and information within the nature and culture scientific field, - use knowledge of culture ecological relationships and of man as an ecologically dependent and social being, - describe and interpret natural, cultural and environmental experiences, and guide in varying natural and cultural environments - create an experience/tourist product.

CONTENTS

Module 1, Nature and environment, 7.5 HE credits The course highlights ecological relationships and cycles in our nature and habitat. The geological processes that shaped mountains, soil and the forms of the soil surface are highlighted. The landscape scene's dependence on climate, water and vegetation is explained. The course also covers studies of the traces of natural forces on the landscape. Based on current literature and research, environmental threats, environmental protection and environmental legislation are discussed. The topics of outdoor activity and environmental involvement run like a thread through the course. The landscape's influence on the local food is studied. Module 2, Culture and environment, 7.5 HE credits This course highlights the contents and distinctive features of different cultural environments. The relationship between nature and culture is highlighted. Cultural environment protection in relation to the development, forms and functions of habitation is studied. The importance of place names and historical maps to shed light on the development is emphasised. Finally, historical legends and the spirits of the folklore are studied. Module 3, Outdoor Education, 7.5 HE credits Outdoor education in theory and practice is studied and placed in an international perspective. The management of the Landscape Information in the teaching is highlighted. Students also work with interpretation of the traces of human activity in the course. Models for how the nature and culture in the local environment can be utilised in observations and studies. Module 4, Guiding, 7.5 HE credits Presentation and submission techniques are studied in the course. Experience-based learning in authentic environments is presented in both theory and practice. Field trip and field study methodology are exercised. Group dynamics and group processes play an important role in this module, as well as the role as a leader. Libraries and archives are studied. Collection, processing and presentation of material in order to create a comprehensive experience are part of the course. Discussions of marketing and pricing are also included.

TEACHING

The teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, field trips, study visits and own practical work. The major part of the education is located in different environments out-of-doors. The assignments are carried out as group work and/or independent work. As the course is given as a distance course, meetings with overnight stays are included, which are paid by the participants.

EXAMINATION

A continuous part examination consists of a reflection assignment linked to the activity of each course date, which may take the form of group presentations or drama. A presented final assignment in the form of an individual project is required to pass the course. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

GRADING

A grade of Pass or Fail is given for the course

CERTIFICATE

Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.

The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.

OTHER INFORMATION

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
