AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should have:

* Acquired knowledge and developed understanding of conflicts and conflict management, and specifically be able to:
- define and illustrate the phenomenon of conflict
- distinguish features of destructive and constructive conflict management
- identify and define different strategies or styles of conflict management

* Acquired abilities concerning conflicts and conflict management, and specifically be able to:
- recognise different management strategies and assess their efficiency on the basis of real conflicts
- design own and review others' suggestions for conflict management, both as part of the conflict and as a third party
- by means of relevant conceptual framework communicate information and ideas concerning conflicts and conflict management, orally and in writing
CONTENTS
Theoretical and practical models of explanation concerning the prevention, origin, development and management of conflicts. Concerning conflict management, the methodical approach with focus on conflict management strategies, non-violent communication and mediation is emphasised.
TEACHING
Lectures; Group work: preparations of the starting-points of the exercise in the form of real conflicts are part of the student's efforts; Literature seminar: studies of and reflection on specified literature are part of the student's efforts
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through an individual written take-home examination. The course is also examined continuously through active participation in group work.

Examination 7.5 HE credits

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

At least 30 HE credits approved in a behavioural science subject, or at least two completed semesters in the teacher education or another behavioural science education.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
