AIM OF THE COURSE
Through the course, the student should develop knowledge of adults' learning and adult education to be able to work with teaching adults.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to describe, analyse and understand: - relations between the different views of knowledge and learning, assessment and design of the teaching practice - the meaning of adult learning from a social perspective - the consequences of different backgrounds of adult students for teaching practices, the students and the teacher - how an academic thesis is designed, assessed and examined

The student should also be able to: - design and plan a lecture in relation to the adult education context where he/she is/will be situated, and in relation to the own view of knowledge and learning - carry out interviews with participants in the adult education context and be able to report the results in a well-organised way - analyse and give constructive feedback on fellow students' texts
CONTENTS
The course is divided into three modules, Adult Education, Prerequisites for Adult Learning and To write a Thesis. The writing process and scholarly methods will be discussed continuously throughout the course.

TEACHING
The course is carried out as distance education. Seminars and lectures are carried out as meetings in Linköping. Between the meetings, the participants work together in small working groups. A number of field studies will be carried out during the course. Supervision is provided throughout the course in relation to course assignments, course meetings, group work and in relation to the essay writing.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through individual written home assignments and is examined continuously throughout the course. The examination also consists of active participation in the seminars. The last module includes writing an individual academic paper that is examined at a seminar.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Higher education qualification from teacher education
GRADING
A grade of Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
