AIM OF THE COURSE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course is eligable for incoming exchange students on Advanced Level as part of their learning agreement. It includes design and implementation of scientific experiments and/or data collection within medical biosciences, as well as analysis and interpretation of the results. Learning Outcomes By the end of the course the students will be able to: -Identify scientific problems and relate them to ongoing research in the field. -Formulate hypotheses and objectives. -Design and independently under supervision perform scientific experiments and/or data collection. -Analyse, interpret and critically examine the results. -Compile these in a scientific report and present the project orally at a seminar. -Explain the project for those not familiar with the research field. -Critically examine other presentations and reports of scientific projects and argue for and against analysis and results. |

The student shall work independently under supervision and show the ability to apply formally acquired theoretical as well as practical knowledge to biomedical problems. EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The project work should be presented both in written form and orally. The examination also includes opposition at other project works at advanced level. Students who have failed the the course or part of the course twice are entitled to request another examiner for the following examination occasion. |

Only incoming students on Advanced Level from an exchange programme may apply for the course as part of their learning agreement. In addition, to be eligible to the course the student must have at least three years of full-time undergraduate studies in a major subject area with relevance for Life Science, e.g. from faculties within medicine, technology/natural sciences, odontology, pharmaceutical science. Course Evaluation Planning and implementation of the course shall be carried out on the basis of the wording in this course plan. The evaluation of the course should therefore consider the question how well the course agrees with the course plan. Written evaluation will be arranged at a scheduled time at the end of the course. Electronic evaluation of the course will also take place in accordance with Linköping University´s regulations (Dnr LiU 780/06-04). Certificate At the student´s request, a course certificate may be issued by the Director of studies for courses or, according to delegation, by the head of the Department/Director of studies. Additional Information If the course is withdrawn, or is subject to major changes, examinations according to this course plan are normally offered on a total of three occasions within one year, one of them in close connection with the first examination. |
