MAIN FIELD OF STUDY   Vatten i natur och samhälle - VNA
SUBJECT AREA
  COURSE CODE   HTVX11
AIM OF THE COURSE
The aim of the course is for the students to learn how to apply common analytical techniques of physical, chemical and biological barriers in order to protect the environment.
CONTENTS
How chemical and biological processes can be used and controlled to transform or immobilise different substances and thereby prevent a negative effect on the environment will be discussed. More specific parts are the function of landfills, soil remediation, water purification with the use of different filters, precipitation of metals, turn over of organic residues as mixed wastes or specific pollutions in water treatment plants, landfills and composts. Practical cases include barriers in land filling, soil and sediment remediation, as well as filters techniques.
TEACHING
Lectures will be combined with exercises, seminars, practical lab work and excursions.
EXAMINATION
Written reports, seminars and project presentations continously during the course.

Students who have failed an examination are normally allowed to retake it on two additional occasions, one of which should be arranged shortly after the first examination.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
