management of technology in comparative economic systems. They
address theory, research and practical questions relating both to
the management of technology within firms and the wider impacts
of innovations on the economy - such as the consequences of
innovation for productivity, employment and growth. Students
examine a broad range of material related to innovation in firms,
but focus especially on new and/or radically changing
technologies and areas of knowledge.
The course thus addresses crucial issues for engineers,
economists and mangers as well as public polycy-makers. It is
offered to both Swedish and international students.
This section will address questions about knowledge development
and use economic purpose, such as the differences between
scientific versus technological knowledge, firm learning, and the
relations between technically novel products and economic success.
Management of Technology
This section will address questions relevant for the management
of technology, particularly of radically new or quickly changing
technologies and products. An example is Ericsson's success with
mobile telephony - compared to their previous products failures
with computers and with research and development (R&D) on
broadband width. This leads us into questions such as when firms
should do their own R&D and when they should contact it out and
how to identify longer term threats from changes wich can shake
up a whole product area or sector.
teachers are also active researchers in the department of
Technology and Social Change. Visiting scholars and practitioners
in business or public organisations may also give guest lectures.
The course will be given in English.
course members are expected to participate actively in seminar
discussions.
Students who have twice failed an examination that covers either
a part of the course or the whole course may demand that another
faculty member determinates the grade for them.
Those who have passed an examination may not retake it in order
to improve their grades.
Studerande som ej blivit godkänd vid ordinarie examinationstillfälle erbjuds normalt ytterligare två extra tillfällen enligt denna kursplan, varav ett i nära anslutning till det första examinationstillfället.
Studerande som underkänts tre gånger på kursen eller del av kursen har rätt att begära en annan examinator vid förnyat examinationstillfälle.
Den som godkänts i prov får ej delta i förnyat prov för högre betyg.
Kursen bedrivs på ett sådant sätt att både mäns och kvinnors erfarenhet och kunskaper synliggörs och utvecklas.
