Mål
The aim of this course is for the students to increase their critical understanding of the theories and works, which are fundamental to current perspectives of the complex relationship between society, individuals and health.
Kursinnehåll
This course explores central topics concerning health, illness, health care, health professions and medical science. It tackles modern theories from different disciplines through examining important works of major thinkers in the field.
Undervisning/Arbetsformer
The course is conducted primarily in the form of reading and
discussion seminars. Instruction consists of lectures and seminars.
Examination
Examination is carries out continuously during the course. However, class discussion is a major grading factor. All students are required to attend and actively participate in all class sessions by submitting own questions and written texts relevant to the field that will form the basis of the class discussions.

Studerande som underkänts två gånger på kursen eller del av kursen har rätt att begära en annan examinator vid förnyat examinationstillfälle.

Den som godkänts i prov får ej delta i förnyat prov för högre betyg.
Förkunskap

Eligible for the course are those who have earlier studies at least up to a level corresponding to three years of study at a Swedish university, i.e. approximately equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree at a British university.

Applicants with a professional degree are eligible provided they fulfil the specific admission requirements.

International students who do not have English as their native language must prove proficency in English by submitting results from a TOEFL test or other internationally recognised tests (TOEFL score at least 213/550).

Applicants who have previously studied in Sweden must at the start of the programme hold a Kandidatexamen in a relevant field or a professional degree of at least three years of study.

In addition, all applicants must fulfil the specific entrance requirements of in-depth studies for at least one-year in a field relevant for the programme such as sociology, history, philosophy, epidemiology, public health, ethics, including a degree thesis or final paper of approximately ten weeks of study.

International students who cannot submit a final thesis or project works written in English in a subject relevant to the programme must enclose a paper of some 500 words of length, written in English, which describes her/his previous studies. The paper should focus on the studies relevant to the master’s level programme. It must also describe why the applicant is interested in following the programme.

Kursbevis utfärdas av filosofiska fakultetsstyrelsen, efter begäran av den studerande. Begäran om bevis ska göras på särskild blankett som finns att hämta på Centrala studerandeexpeditionerna eller via http://www.liu.se/gf/studc/examen/ . Blanketten lämnas till StudentCentrum

Övrigt
Planering och genomförande av kurs skall utgå från kursplanens formuleringar. Den kursvärdering som skall ingå i varje kurs skall därför behandla frågan om hur kursen överensstämmer med kursplanen.

Kursen bedrivs på ett sådant sätt att både mäns och kvinnors erfarenhet och kunskaper synliggörs och utvecklas.
