Mål

The Students should acquire - a knowledge of concepts, theories and problems within the field of social and political ethics - the ability to analyse ethical problems in the same area

Kursinnehåll

The course focuses on ethical theories and ethical problems relevant within the field of social and political ethics. One central topic is human rights. Another is the concept of social justice, its different interpretations, its connections to liberty and equality, and the various suggested ways of its implementation. Contemporary texts in this area are studied. The course also deals with problems of professional ethics in public administration.

Undervisning/Arbetsformer

Teaching comprises lectures and discussion seminars. The course is given as a full-time course during the second half of the autumn term.

Examination

Active participation in seminar discussions is expected of the students. The course will be examined by the writing of a paper. Students who have failed an examination are normally allowed to retake it on two additional occasions, one of which should be arranged shortly after the first examination. Students failing an examination covering either the entire course or part of the course three times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the re-examination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. Studerande som ej blivit godkänd vid ordinarie examinationstillfälle erbjuds normalt ytterligare två extra tillfällen enligt denna kursplan, varav ett i nära anslutning till det första examinationstillfället. Studerande som underkänts tre gånger på kursen eller del av kursen har rätt att begära en annan examinator vid förnyat examinationstillfälle. Den som godkänts i prov får ej delta i förnyat prov för högre betyg.

Förkunskap

Documented knowledge of English. This means a TOEFL-score of at least 550 (213 for the computer-based test) or an equivalent test if your native language is not English. For Swedish residents, general eligibility is required. Elementary level (A-level): At least one year of undergraduate studies.

Kursbevis utfärdas av filosofiska fakultetsstyrelsen, efter begäran av den studerande. Begäran om bevis ska göras på särskild blankett (finns på institutionen). Blanketten lämnas till StudentCentrum.

Övrigt

Planering och genomförande av kurs skall utgå från kursplanens formuleringar. Den kursvärdering som skall ingå i varje kurs skall därför behandla frågan om hur kursen överensstämmer med kursplanen. Kursen bedrivs på ett sådant sätt att både mäns och kvinnors erfarenhet och kunskaper synliggörs och utvecklas.
