AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should have command of the Swedish language equal to level A1, according to CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
• understand and use well-known, everyday expressions and very basic phrases, which all aim to meet concrete needs
• present herself/himself and others, and ask, as well as answer, questions relating to their own life such as where s/he lives, people s/he knows and things s/he owns
• conduct simple conversation, provided that the conversational partner speaks slowly and clearly, and is willing to help out.
CONTENTS
Text
Study of texts that are adapted to the course level and that are used as a basis for reading and listening comprehension exercises, for systematic vocabulary training and as a basis for oral and written tasks.

Oral Comprehension
Exercises in listening comprehension, pronunciation and oral communication

Grammar and Written Proficiency
Study of basic Swedish grammar, with a focus on syntax. Exercises in the writing of texts.
TEACHING
Teaching is given in the form of classes, seminars, and exercises.
To a great extent, the different parts are integrated. In addition to the instruction given, it is necessary to carry out individual studies.
EXAMINATION
Examination consists of continuous assessment throughout the course, as well as of one oral exam, and one written exam at the end of the course. Detailed information about examination is found in the study guide.


Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The course is aimed at exchange students at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences who lack any previous knowledge of Swedish.
GRADING
The course is graded according to the ECTS grading scale A-F
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
