AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: account for a chosen specialisation in the history of Christianity, - formulate an issue in the field of the history of Christianity and independently examine it in the form of an essay by means of the theory and method traditions of the discipline, - with a qualified approach, systematise, compile and critically review, and interpret information and present the work process and conclusions of an issue in the form of a thesis, - analyse and evaluate others' scholarly work, - with a qualified academic approach, relate to church historical events and issues through critical and objective oral and written presentation.
CONTENTS
The course comprises independent examination of an issue in the form of a thesis, based on the theory and method traditions of Christian history; presentation and review of thesis/theses.
TEACHING
Independent thesis work; compulsory seminars; written and oral presentation; public discussion. All students are expected to participate actively and constructively in seminars, etcetera, through solid preparations for them. The thesis work is followed by a supervisor. The students should also study independently.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through compulsory seminars, as well as oral presentation and review of another essay. Active individual oral participation in the seminars is required to pass the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Completed Religious Studies - History of Christianity, in-depth course, or the equivalent, with at least 7.5 HE credits approved.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
