| AIM OF THE COURSE |
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- use knowledge of the subject of Bible studies, the Old and New Testament,
- use knowledge of perspectives and methods in the discipline of Bible studies, including basic orientation in hermeneutic questions,
- account for the history, mental contents and creation environment of the sacred texts of the Old Testament and the New Testament,
- demonstrate ability for independent exegesis on academic basis,
- demonstrate ability to profit by basic exegetical nonfiction. |
| CONTENTS |
The course includes two modules, each comprising 7.5 HE credits (module 1: The Old Testament, module 2: The New Testament) and comprises
- the main mental contents and creation history of the biblical texts in light of political, social, cultural and idea-historical relations in their surrounding world,
- Israel's history and religious-historical development up to and including Second Temple Judaism and the origin of Christianity,
- questions surrounding the development of primitive Christianity including the historical Jesus and his preaching,
- interpretation of translated biblical texts. |
| TEACHING |
| The effort mainly consists of independent literature studies. Lectures are given to introduce the subject and in support of the course literature studies. In addition, there will be seminars with oral and/or written presentations, which requires active participation. The seminar sessions are compulsory and in all cases imply work that should be carried out in advance. |
| EXAMINATION |
The course is examined through written examination on the course literature and, in addition, an interpretation assignment that should be submitted in writing. Active participation in the compulsory seminars is required for approval in the course.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |
| ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS |
At least 22.5 HE credits from Religious Studies - basic course, or the equivalent. |
| GRADING |
| A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course |
| CERTIFICATE |
| Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division. |
| COURSE LITERATURE |
| The course literature is decided upon by the department
in question. |
| OTHER INFORMATION |
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed. |
