On completion of the course, the student should on an advanced way be able to
- formulate an issue in the field of history of religion or anthropology of religion and, with a scientific approach, examine it by means of the theory and method traditions of the discipline,
- retrieve and interpret relevant data and texts, and in the form of academic work, present the results
- critically discuss and assess work within the subject area
- analyse chosen speciality within history of religion or anthropology of religion.
From the theory and method traditions of the discipline, the course includes independent studies of a problem in history of religion or anthropology of religion by means of current research literature.
The course work mainly consists of independent thesis work. In addition, there will be teaching in the form of supervision, seminars and a presentation seminar. The seminars in all cases imply work that should be carried out in advance. The results are presented in writing and defended at a thesis seminar. The course also includes discussing other students' thesis plans and completed theses. In addition to this, the student should study independently.
The course is examined through defending the own essay at a seminar discussion and normally also by publicly discussing others' essays.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Completed course History of Religions, in-depth course, 15 HE credits, or the equivalent.
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
