AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- critically, independently and creatively be able to identify and formulate an issue in the history of Christianity and examine it independently in the form of an essay by means of the theory and method traditions of the discipline
- orally and in writing, account for and discuss the independent conclusions, knowledge and arguments that underlie these
- analyse, assess and discuss other essays, or equivalent work in the subject area
- critically discuss the possibilities and limitations of the field of scholarship, its role in society and people's responsibility for how it is used.
CONTENTS
From the theory and method traditions of the discipline, the student independently examines an issue in the history of Christianity. The results are presented in writing in the form of an essay that is defended at an essay seminar. The possibilities and limitations of the field of scholarship are discussed in the course. Another essay, or other equivalent work, is analysed, assessed and discussed.
TEACHING
The independent thesis work is supported by a course introduction and supervision, and a completing essay seminar. The student should actively and constructively prepare before supervision and the seminar sessions.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through participation in compulsory seminars/supervision sessions and final review, but mainly through assessing the completed essay and public discussion on other students' theses. Detailed information can be found in the study guide.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the course requires a bachelor's degree in religious studies, or the equivalent, and passing grades in at least two courses for second-cycle studies in History of Christianity comprising 15 HE credits each, or the equivalent. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
