AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- analyse welfare work from organisational and institutional perspectives with specific focus on power, control and professionalisation
- critically analyse and problematise welfare work and the changes in welfare work in relation to current theoretical perspectives
- analyse how the change in political, economic and ideological conditions of welfare influences different actors, their conditions and interactions
- analyse the conditions for, and the practical work with leading change and development work in the welfare sector
- critically review, analyse and relate established methods and working methods in different fields of the welfare sector to changes in conditions for welfare production
- analyse cooperation as a phenomenon and working methods in the field of welfare with particular focus on preventive work.
CONTENTS
The course covers welfare work in practice, its working method and methods, and its organisational and institutional conditions. Cooperation between different organisations and actors in the welfare sector is also covered, and the conditions of cooperation are problematised. The different actors of welfare work, both in the public sector and civil society are analysed. The meeting and the interaction between citizens and welfare participants are problematised. Professionalisation is studied in relation to different perspectives on power.
The course is divided into two modules, of which the first is focused on current perspectives on welfare work in practice, while the second module is focused on questions regarding leading change management in the welfare sector. The starting point of the course is to examine welfare from a perspective of change.
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of independent studies, lectures and seminars, and are based on student active working methods with a relatively high degree of independence.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined individually in written form. Detailed information can be found in the study guide.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
