AIM OF THE COURSE
The higher education gives admission to higher education in Sweden according to regulations from The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education (HSVFS 1996:22 section 4), which means that the student should acquire knowledge and skills in the Swedish language that in regards to admission is equivalent to Swedish as a second language course B in Swedish upper secondary school or adult secondary education and acquire knowledge and skills in Swedish social studies equivalent to social studies course A at Swedish upper secondary school or adult education.

On completion of the education, the student should be able to
- use the Swedish language flexibly and efficiently, primarily in situations linked to higher education.
- express himself or herself in a clear and well-structured manner about complex facts
- account for teaching and different examination formats used at Swedish higher education institutions
CONTENTS
Characteristic for the education is that it is university preparatory. The different modules of the education run in parallel and should not be seen as isolated parts but as different parts of a whole.

The first semester (30 HE credits) begins with an introduction that provides information about practical relations, the Swedish higher education system, cultural encounters, etcetera, and practical support and orientation of what it means to study and function socially in Sweden. The introduction contains study technique with reviews of common study techniques used at Swedish higher education institutions.
The semester comprises the following modules:
1. Oral Production and Listening Comprehension, 6 HE credits
2. Grammar, 9 HE credits
3. Written Production, 7.5 HE credits
4. Text Course and Knowledge of Sweden, 7.5 HE credits

The second semester (30 HE credits) focuses on advanced knowledge and skills in the Swedish language so that the students with satisfactory results may carry out studies at a Swedish university/higher education institution. The semester includes auscultations in the subjects that the students intend to study after the preparatory education. The semester comprises the following modules:
1. Study Technique and Subject Orientation, 1.5 HE credits
2. Oral Production and Listening Comprehension, 6 HE credits
3. Grammar and Written Production, 9 HE credits
4. Text Course and Knowledge of Sweden, 7.5 HE credits
5. Project Work, 3 HE credits
6. Social Studies, 3 HE credits
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of teaching sessions and group work. Homework and independent studies are necessary complements.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined continuously during the course, and through active participation in teaching, as well as at the end of the course through oral and written examination.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

For admission to Qualifying Course in Swedish, the applicant is required to satisfy current basic and specific entry requirements that apply for admission to the education except for the requirement of knowledge in Swedish
The course is intended only for applicants with other first languages than Swedish.
GRADING
A grade of Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
