AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- demonstrate advanced knowledge in the area of cognition, communication and disability
- relate knowledge of different memory systems to different aspects of communication and disability,
- implement the knowledge and apply them on a clinical group, for example individuals with hearing impairment or language disorder.
CONTENTS
The course gives an advanced study in the area of cognition, communication and disability, on the basis of current research. The course begins with an overview of different memory systems and how these relate to communication ability. Memory and language are studied around different themes, such as hearing, reading, writing and development. The course highlights typical and atypical neurological, cognitive and linguistic development. The basic concepts and theories that are highlighted during the course are applied on patient groups such as cerebral paresis, autism, CI, learning disability and language disorder. Clinical applications, such as testing and assessment from patient case are an important part of the course.
TEACHING
The course contains lectures, clinical laboratory sessions, demonstrations, seminars and literature studies.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through an individual assignment that focuses the course contents from a patient-centred interdisciplinary perspective, and is presented at a seminar.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

At least 5 semesters passed in the Logopedics Programme ,or corresponding knowledge of one or more relevant subjects, for example Disability Science, Cognitive Psychology, Neuropsychology or Linguistics. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
