AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- demonstrate advanced knowledge of social anthropology and an ability to undertake a smaller research assignment in the subject
CONTENTS
The course contents relate to the scientific interests in the subject of social anthropology at Linköping University and the course is conducted as a group learning process.

Contemporary Research, 15 HE credits (Aktuell forskning)

The course covers a chosen theme in a current research field.

Thesis, 15 HE credits (Uppsats)

The module implies an independently planned and individually completed thesis work that satisfies socio-anthropological scientific requirements. The results are presented in writing (thesis). The essay is expected to be based on fieldwork and related to the theory development in a current research field.
TEACHING
The course work mainly consists of independent literature studies. In addition, there will be teaching in the form of lectures, film screenings, seminars, work in groups and individual supervision. The seminars in all cases imply work that should be carried out in advance. The students should also study independently.
EXAMINATION
The first module is examined in part continuously within the scope of the teaching through presenting the results of group work in writing, and in part at the end of the course through an individual assignment presented in writing (take-home examination). The other module is examined through an individual written assignment (essay) at the end of the module. Also included in the module is publicly discussing and examining others' theses.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

For admission to the course, completed Social Anthropology, in-depth course (30 HE credits) is required, with at least 22.5 HE credits approved, including Essay or the equivalent. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
