After the completion of the course the student should be able to: - create prerequistes for proposing and initiating an artistic and/or scientific mastersproject. - analyze, evaluate and choose the content, methods and forms for the project, and be able to account for the practical, technical and economic prerequisites for the project. - create and complete an advanced artistic and/or scientific mastersproject. - relate the project to, and publicize it in relevant contexts and institutions of art, media and science. |

The course is artistic, laboratory and production oriented and emphasizes, within the framework of a production project, the interplay and exchange between, on the one side, production-design within communicative, interactive and technically supported art and media production and artistic process, and on the other side, cultural and artistic strategies, forms of publication, arenas and institutions. The course comprises work within artistic and medialized genres, technologies and forms of expression, and it emphasizes the students active choises of content and media, and of her/his own roles of artist, curator, producer, technician or analyst/critic. Focus lies on the planning and completion of a master project comprised of art and production work and/or scientific research and writing. This can include practical work within many parts of a production-process. Content is developed according to the student’s own project application and course of study. By virtue of the education’s prior activities and contacts there can be special possibilities for work with international arts projects as well as local arts and media institutions, interactive and communicative media environments, for example visualization techniques and production-design in computer-generated and computer driven environments. The course contains the following stages Project work, stage 1 Initiates the analysis, choise and research of particular content, media and context for a masters project. Project work, stage 2 The student proposes and presents a well worked out project proposal, including a presentation of the students competence to complete such a project. Project work, stage 3 With the project proposal as guide the student investigates and creates important parts of the project and certifies that the project can be realized. Project work, stage 4 This stage comprises the production of the project under supervision from the students supervisor/tutor Project work, stage 5 This stage comprises the completion, presentation and examination of the master project. It also comprises an future-oriented analysis by the student where the project is reflected on in relation to its place and impact in the arts and/or scientific contexts. |

The course is set up to promote student active working methods, where artistic research and development work, and one’s own investigations and production-design work are integrated. Teaching mainly takes the form of supervision and advising, but is supported by seminars (production-design, thematic, and/or method seminars), lectures, workshops and laboratory work. Parts of the course involve externally located work in the form of project-grounding practical work at art and media scenes, arenas, institutions, etc. In addition, students can conduct individual work related to particular international arenas and projects and may thus be required to relate to the culture and language of those arenas. The teaching and projects are conducted in English as main language. A project can contain work in other languages depending on its particular international scene of exhibition and publication. The project as a whole should be possible to assess by the course examiner and parts may thus require translation by the student. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The examination comprises the different stages of the project work, the finished result as well as the individual work process; the publication of the work and its presentation in digital and/or material form. It also comprises assessment of the students participation in seminars and the presentation and defence of the work in an academic seminar. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the course’s study guide. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |

Bachelor of Arts (or corresponding degree) in subject areas common for the field of Art, culture and media, for example undergraduate programmes in Arts as well as Culture and Media Production, Culture and Social Sciences, or Mediatechnology. Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6: internationally recognized test, e.g. TOEFL (minimum scores: Paper based 575 + TWE-score 4.5, and internet based 90), IELTS, academic (minimum score Overall band 6.5 and no band under 5.5), or equivalent. |
